A 26-year-old resident of Farmingdale is not facing any charges after striking a 22-year-old Jersey City man on June 30. On that day, at approximately 2:12 a.m., Umar Khawaja of Jersey City, was videotaping the conclusion of a wedding taking place at Antun's Catering Hall in Hicksville when he stepped out into the right lane of Old Country Road.

After stepping out onto the road, the victim, still filming, was struck by a 1994 Ford Explorer being operated by the 26-year-old from Farmingdale. The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the staff physician. No charges have been filed against the operator. According to police, it was unlikely that the driver noticed the man in the street as the accident occurred in the nighttime darkness and the victim was dressed completely in black.
