Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto announced that the Apple & Eve Tennis Classic, presented by Pathmark and hosted by the Town of Oyster Bay, is coming to Syosset-Woodbury Community Park July 14 through 21, and local volunteers are needed.
"This professional women's USTA challenger tournament is the one and only such tournament played in Nassau and Suffolk counties," Venditto said. "The event organizers have requested that residents who are interested in tennis consider volunteering for one of the many jobs required to make an event like this successful."
According to Venditto, ticket takers, ushers, floaters, VIP tent assistants, on-court scoreboard assistants, ball persons and special events volunteers are all needed.
"Any town resident interested in volunteering should contact the Long Island Tennis & Sports Foundation, 631-642-8081," Venditto added. "The Tennis Classic is just around the corner, so I suggest all tennis buffs who want to be a part of this great event make that call as soon as possible.
"We're extremely proud that event organizers have selected Syosset-Woodbury Community Park for this women's professional tennis tournament," Venditto said. "The event gives town residents the opportunity to both watch and volunteer at professional level matches right here in their own community. It's a wonderful way to introduce youngsters to the sport of tennis, as well. Who knows, it might spur some of them on to pursue the sport."
