Residents Angered by School Board's Decision
Sparks flew during the last Hicksville board meeting when school board members voted 5 to 2 in favor of appointing Maureen Bright as superintendent. Bright, the district's current assistant superintendent for Hicksville Schools, will fill the position being vacated by retiring Superintendent Edward J. Finn as of August 1.

Hicksville Firefighters Respond to Newbridge Road House Fire
A house at 241 Newbridge Road in Hicksville sustained moderate damage when a fire started in an upstairs bedroom on Monday, June 17. Four units from the Hicksville Fire Department responded to the 12:40 p.m. alarm under command of Assistant Chief Douchette.

Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League Update
The last time they met, members of the Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League did not play their usual tournament, rather they played a game called "Best Ball" or "Scramble" where play is done as a team and not as an individual. Each member of the team tees off and whoever has the best shot leaves his ball there and the rest of the team picks up their balls and everybody hits their second shot from that spot. Then they do the same thing with their third short and fourth and fifth if necessary until someone puts the ball into the hole. Only the best ball for each shot is counted and the score is for the whole team.
