Amanda Roach of Hicksville recently placed first on beam in the 2002 New York State Level 7 Gymnastic Championship. Amanda had a nearly flawless beam routine, scoring a 9.70. She not only outscored the other gymnasts in her age group, but also outscored the 250 plus gymnasts that had qualified from throughout the state to compete in this year's state championship meet. Amanda's All-Around (combined scores of bars, beam, floor and vault) score of 37.225, placed her third in the state.
Amanda has been a member of the Mid-Island Gymnastics for the past four years. This year, her Level 7 team at Mid-Island placed third at the championship meet. Amanda's hard work and dedication, along with the guidance and patience of her coaches, has turned her into the champion she is.
Amanda is the daughter of Chris Roach - Hicksville High School class of 1974 - and Judy Roach, and granddaughter of Tess Brady of Hicksville. She is also the niece and Goddaughter of Bill "B" Roach, Hicksville High School class of 1972, as well as other aunts and uncles in Hicksville.
