I would like to see a revised bond put out to the residents of Hicksville. I feel that the district should have sent out some type of announcement of this vote as they do when they are running for the board of education. Many people knew nothing about it. I rallied on behalf of this bond, but found people did not like such "unnecessary" items as the high school tennis courts upgrade and the ball field upgrades and fences.
Our schools desperately needs upgrading. A perfect example is the steam leak in an uni-vent at the Lee Avenue School this week. When it was investigated, asbestos was found throughout the second floor. Though this poses no threat to the children, it goes to show you our schools are old and could be hazardous to the children if we wait for things to break instead of fixing them now.
Every day I walk on the sidewalks at Lee Avenue with a stroller and almost flip it over on the same lifted piece of concrete. Let's not wait for someone to get hurt or ill. Lets put a new bond out there. Let the people know about it and get it passed.
