The Joseph Barry Council of the Knights of Columbus recently named its champions of the 2002 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Basketball Championship for boys and girls ages 10 to 14.
Nearly 50 boys and girls competed in the event which was sponsored by the Joseph F. Lamb Council No. 5723, Knights of Columbus, Plainview/Hicksville.

Boys: Chad Zarate
13-year-old Class

14-year-old Class
Girls: No Competitors
Boys: Joseph Alfieri
Each of the winners will go on to compete at the district level, with an eye toward moving into the regional and state competitions.
The Nassau County High School Football Coaches Association recently held its 36th Annual Gridiron Banquet at the Crest Hollow Country Club. The Hicksville High School Varsity Football Team and Coaches Barney Dell'Aquila, Matt Wildes, Gary Maerker and Frank Ciaramitara, was recognized with the presentation of the Big Four Champs 2001 plaque for their accomplishments.
The Hot Shots, Hicksville's American Soccer Club Girls Tournament Team recently participated in North Babylon's E. Banninger Memorial Tournament and finished in second place. Team member Kelly Secko received the 'Toni Award' for being the MVP in their division of 12 games.
