The Hicksville Flash U-13 boys soccer team entered its third indoor tournament of the winter, the Sue Link Memorial Tournament at Island Trees High School, on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Flash entered the tournament again as a split squad.
Goalie Joey Dzienius allowed only one goal per game. The Defense of Alex Torrellas, Brian Masterson, and Kyle Collier whom the flash borrowed from the Hicksville Hurricanes, was outstanding, while David Mirro and Kyle Bloecker led the offensive attack.
Goalie Brian Scott led his team with five shutouts, one coming in the semi finals. The Defense of Kenny Garger and Timothy Sciascia was superb, making some sliding saves to help out their goalie. The Offense of Danny Alves playing with a sore ankle, set up most of the goals, and scored one himself, Teddy Bruckner had 3 goals, Chris Mutch had 2 goals, and Kevin Myers had a goal.
The Flash, after losing their first game of the tournament to Sachem, came back to shut them out in the semifinals. The Flash then played Center Moriches in the finals and lost a hard fought battle by the score of 2-1. The Flash played in this tournament without five of their regular players: Danny Musinski, Matt Oliva, Devon Laviano, George Rios, Anthony Geslak. The Flash want to thank the owners of Subway on Broadway again for the after-tournament sandwiches soda and ice cream that the store provided. The team's next tournament is Sunday, Jan. 27, in East Meadow.
