Arrests have been made in two violent robberies that took place in Hicksville last month, Nassau County Police reported this week.
Two Westbury High School students were arrested in connection with the robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Super Stop and Shop, 530 Old Country Road, Hicksville, on Dec. 21 at 6:50 p.m.
According to detectives, the 21-year-old female victim was about to enter her car in the parking lot of the grocery store, when she was attacked from behind. The perpetrators grabbed her around the neck and struck her in the head with a heavy object, fracturing her skull. Her assailants fled with her wallet, cell phone, cash and credit cards, leaving her pocket book behind. The victim was able to call 911 from the store. She was transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
Following a joint investigation by numerous special units of the police department, two Westbury High School students were arrested for this crime on Dec. 24. One subject, a 17-year-old from New Cassel, was arrested at 3:45 p.m., while a second, a 19-year-old from New Cassel, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Both were charged with 1st Degree Robbery. In addition, the 19-year-old suspect was charged with a second count of 1st Degree Robbery in connection with the robbery of a 40-year-old woman in the parking lot of the Broadway Mall, Hicksville on Dec. 17. In that incident, the woman was held at gunpoint and sexually assaulted.
Furthermore, on Dec. 27, police announced that they had also arrested a 17-year-old from Bayshore in connection with the robbery at Broadway Mall. The authorities also reported that another teen, a 15-year-old, had been arrested and charged with 1st Degree Robbery at the Stop and Shop.
The police investigation is continuing in these crimes, and the public is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS if they have any information. They assured that all calls will be kept anonymous.
