News that George Howard was one of the first to respond to the scene of the World Trade Center terrorist attack comes as no surprise to many, for he was long-known for his heroic efforts. The Port Authority police officer and Hicksville firefighter, killed in last Tuesday's attack, was consistently at the forefront of local rescue operations, determined to save those in need, no matter what the danger to himself.
