Chamber Announces 2001 ‘Citizen of the Year’
This year, the Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” awardee is to be a gentleman who just happens to wear many hats. If this phrase were created for only one person, it would be Hicksville’s own Bill Bennett. If Bill sees that something must be done, he takes the job on – not to just do it but to do it well.

Assemblyman Herbst Discusses Hicksville Freight Yard Plan
Residents of Northwest Hicksville this week flooded the office of Assemblyman Marc Herbst (14th District - Hicksville) to express concern over the plan for the Hicksville railroad storage yard plan announced last week by Governor George Pataki.

Hicksville Runners and Walkers Invited to Oyster Bay Run
Hicksville runners and walkers of every age and ability are being invited to be part of the 14th annual edition of the Oyster Bay Town Supervisor’s Oyster Festival 5 Kilometer Run, to be held on Saturday morning, Oct. 13, as the kickoff event of this year’s Oyster Festival. The run will start in Fireman’s Field in Oyster Bay at exactly 9 a.m. on the morning of the 13th.

Cantiague Men's Golf Results
On Aug. 16 the Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held its 11th bimonthly tournament. “It started out to be a great day as far as the weather was concerned. It was nice and cool, but it was not long before it got hot. In spite of the heat, there were some pretty good scores. In the last tournament we had only one score under 40. Today, we had nine men score 39 or less. Low man was Dan McCann who shot a gross 32 and a net score of 25,” reported Organizer Lou Neumann. Dan also won the match play tournament by beating Don Gangemella 4-to-2. Dan got a birdie on the par 4, 272-yard sixth hole. He also had five pars to go along with his birdie. The only other birdie today was made by Don Gaynor on the par 4, 257-yard fifth hole.
