Local Areas Hosts Record-Breaking Vytra Women's Run
The 18th annual edition of the Vytra Women's 5 Kilometer Run was simply a record breaker in all respects, as 484 female runners and walkers crossed the finish line on the track at Farmingdale High School on Saturday morning, July 14, more than double last year's total and an even 100 more than the previous number set in the inaugural run 18 years ago. In addition, those assembled at the high school witnessed Catherine Ndereba of Kenya, Runner's World's female athlete of the year for four of the past five years and arguably the best female runner currently in action worldwide, set a race record of 15 minutes, 35 seconds, smashing United States Olympian Anne Marie Letko's 1991 record by five seconds.
