This week's heat wave left thousands of Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) customers without power, including many Hicksville residents, who at times were forced to bear the sweltering temperatures in the dark, and without relief from air conditioners and fans.

In a Hicksville community increasingly cosmopolitan, a village of more than 20 religious serving English-speaking, Hispanic, Chinese, Korean, and Indian Christian groups and a long-standing Orthodox Jewish congregation, the vocational call to the ordained ministry is always a great moment of joy and thanksgiving. St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Hicksville's oldest Roman Catholic Church, has fostered many vocations to the priesthood and sisterhood in its 146 years of spiritual service.

Wheelchair Race Sponsor Honored
This year’s Salomon Smith Barney Nick Katsounis Memorial Wheelchair Championship Race was a major success for Long Island and for wheelchair athletics generally, and the lion’s share of the credit goes to Salomon Smith Barney, acting through its Long Island-based New York suburban regional office. In recognition of its generosity, Salomon Smith Barney was awarded a special certificate by the Oyster Bay Town Board.
