Families, veteran and civic organizations, local police and fire departments, churches and schools across the nation will hoist POW/MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing in Action) flags Sept. 15 while ceremonies pay tribute to the more than 2,000 still missing from war.

Blocked Hydrant Hampers Firefighters
When Hicksville firefighters arrived on the scene of a burning car parked in front of a fire hydrant on Hope Lane recently, they realized flames were not the only safety hazard. The blocked hydrant hampered an uninterrupted supply of water.

Golf Outing Successful
The Cantiague Park Senior Men's Golf League held its bi-monthly golf tournament last Thursday on the park's golf course. Competition on the nine-hole course is divided into two divisions: Flight A is for players with a handicap of 10 or less while Flight B is for players with a handicap of 11 or more.

The Police Athletic League of Nassau County Baseball Team recently celebrated their winning season at Carvel in the West Village Green. The boys, age 6 through 8, are pictured here with Coaches Joe DiFronzo and Eddie Hartmann. The baseball team includes: Brian Hartmann, James Englehardt, Cody Stryker, Andreas Lambadarios, Zachary DiFronzo, Steven Quinn, Brian Quinn, Tyler Arnonet, Brian Freire, Shah Baaz Khan, Peter DiLorenzo, John Hong, Sebastian Skaar, Andres Zuluapa and Kyle Antonik.
