Fighting Against Future Cuts
In the wake of Governor George Pataki's announcement of his fiscal recovery plan dictating $270 million in cuts over the next four years, social service advocates staged a press conference earlier this week in protest of the plan and to present an opposing plan that they say would eliminate the need for future cuts.

Voters Back $65 Million Budget
Voters voiced their support for the Hicksville School District's 2000-2001 budget earlier this week when they went to the polls and approved the $65 million document by a 2-1 margin. The approved budget is a 4.62 percent increase over last year's, one of the lowest in Nassau County.

HIX Boys 6th Grade Lacrosse Slams Syosset
On Sunday, May 14 a weary but determined 6th grade PAL lacrosse team performed a gut check and defeated Syosset 9-1. The day before the boys and their parents traveled by bus to Princeton, NJ to play in the 8th annual Hopewell Valley Invitational Tournament. They beat Summit, NJ and Wilton, CT, almost defeated a team from Radnor, PA, who had six foot tall defenseman, and lost to an all-star team from Abindon, PA.

Asteroids Tame Jaguars 3-1
The Hicksville Asteroids Girls U-12 travel soccer team continued their winning ways by defeating the Wantagh-Seaford Jaguars 3-1. The girls tried a different strategy in this game and it worked out well. Instead of playing their primary positions, the girls played in positions they normally do not play. Team trainer Marian Pistone has the girls so well-conditioned and skilled that they are prepared to play any positions at any time. This is the sign of a well-rounded and developed soccer player.
