Hicksville Schools' Proposed Budget
The Hicksville Board of Education announced earlier this week that its estimated Class I tax rate increase for 2000-2001 will be considerably lower than first anticipated. The board had publicized an estimated tax rate increase of $1.32 per $100 of assessed valuation, but after receiving the adjusted base proportions late last week, it has been lowered to $0.422, an increase of only 1.01 percent.
State Plan to Push County to Action?
Governor George Pataki's long-awaited proposal to restore fiscal stability to Nassau County came earlier this week with the promise of financial assistance and the threat that if the county does not take immediate action to cut its budget it would lose control of its finances.

Asteroids Scare Phantoms 6-1
After overcoming a sluggish start and the hot sun, the Hicksville Asteroids Girls U12 travel soccer team crushed the East Meadow Phantoms 6-1.
