In a sterling display of excellent conditioning and sheer will to win, the Hicksville sixth grade "A" lacrosse team defeated a determined Long Beach squad by a final score of 11-5 in their season opener.
The Hicksville boys were playing without four starters due to injuries and only had two substitutes to call on compared to Long Beach's 12 subs. However, although "outmanned," they weren't "outgunned." After a low scoring first quarter, the boys displayed their superior speed and ability and ended the half with a 6-3 advantage. The Long Beach defensemen were big and brawny and knocked our guys to the ground several times. But they showed their resilience and toughness as they bounced right back up and continued to play. In the fourth quarter it was our boys who out finessed the bigger opponent and literally ran away to an exciting 11-5 victory. Goal scorers were Brian Andrews 3, Jimmy Davis 2, Erich Reichmann 2, Nicholas Ajello 1, John Anglin 1, Sean Greene 1, and Alex Kapatos 1. Passing from Nicholas Ajello - four assists, Erich Reichmann - two assists, Jimmy David, John Anglin and Sean Greene all had one assist. Congratulations to our three defensemen, Craig Davis, Kevin Mack and Brendan Foley who played the entire game without being substituted. Kenny Kowalski turned in outstanding goal play with seven saves and pinpoint clearing passes.
