Wow! Welcome to March madness. Holy Family and Our Lady of Mercy gave the fans an electrifying performance in the CYO playoff quarter finals.
Holy Family ran off the first six points of the game and then watched as OLM went on a 15-2 run. OLM eventually stretched their first half lead to 11 points and Holy Family's season was in jeopardy. But Holy Family refused to quit and instead ratcheted up the defensive pressure in the second half. Eventually Holy Family's defensive intensity began to wear down their taller opponents allowing them to sneak past a determined OLM team 62-56.
Lou Sullo turned in a brilliant performance scoring 14 of his game high 24 points in the decisive 4th quarter. Several of Lou's baskets came off steals in the front court that he took coast-to-coast to convert a series of incredible driving lay-ups. Justin Rogich and Tom Oswald also turned in spectacular performances with 12 and 9 points, respectively, and 8 rebounds a piece. Brian Garriques (6 points, 6 rebounds), Carlos Gomez (5 pts., 5 rebs.) and Jon Kishanuk (11 rebs.) out fought OLM's twin towers on the back boards. Steve Curcio and Mike Hebron produced several key steals while Rob DeGennaro (2 pts.), Mike Weiss (2 pts.) and Mike Pesale (2 pts.) did an outstanding job running Holy Family's high octane offense.
Congratulations to Holy Family on advancing to the Nassau/Suffolk Final Four.
