This weekend the Children's Services at the Hicksville Public Library will be hosting a musical tribute to America in Stand Up and Sing America.
The fast-paced production will feature music from our nation's beginning to its songs of today. According to Myra Heyman, library clerk, the tribute will reflect feelings of pride and patriotism towards our country, as well as its cultural diversity. During the show children will listen and sing along to such songs as This is My Country, Polly Wolly Doodle, When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and People Got to be Free.
The production is one of several children's shows the library holds in its Community Room throughout the year, and in fact is part of a larger ongoing program of scheduled activities for children. The children's program includes art classes for children aged 3-9, and storytime for children under five years of age.
According to Heyman, the classes and activities are designed to promote child development, to foster an interest in reading, and to simply get children to feel comfortable spending time in the library.
