A day after suffering a tough one point loss at St. Vincent's, Holy Family's 8th grade basketball team faced a critical showdown with St. Aidan's in a battle for first place.

In the game's early stages St. Aidan's point guard controlled the game, penetrating Holy Family's defense and setting up teammates for easy buckets. In the second quarter Holy Family switched to a box-and-one defense and Mike Pesale and Steve Curcio took turns shutting down the opposing point guard. This enabled Holy Family to narrow St. Aidan's lead to three at halftime.

In the second half Holy Family's big men overpowered St. Aidan's on the boards. Lou Sullo (14 points, 12 rebs.), Jonathan Kishanuk (11 pts., 11 rebs.), Tom Oswald (9 pts., 7 rebs.), Brian Garriques (7 pts., 8 rebs), Justin Rogich (4 pts, 7 rebs.) and Mike Hebron (2 pts., 5 rebs.) pounded the glass relentlessly while guards Mike Weiss (5 pts., 5 assists), Rob DeGennaro (2 pts., 4 assists) and Carlos Gomez (2 pts., 4 assists) did a super job running Holy Family's up tempo offense.

When the final buzzer sounded Holy Family emerged victorious, with a come-from-behind 57-44 victory and a share of first place.
