Any person involved with a church, the Elks, the VFW, the American Legion, the Fire Department, etc. is well aware that they all solicit funds by a mailing to all the businesses in town. For anyone to suggest I am responsible for the money raised is flattering. However, I also do most of my buying here in good old Hicksville. So if any establishment I visit buys a journal ad or makes a donation I could have a conflict? If someone sees me at the VFW and makes a donation to the VFW, am I responsible for the donation and assume conflict of interest?
Does working with the Hicksville Fire Department for many years turn out to be a conflict of interest because people donated money to the department at their annual fund raising? Mr. Staton, where do you stand on Twin County, Senior Citizens Housing or an asphalt plant? If we do not start promoting zone changes along West John Street and Duffy Avenue, we will never get rid of what we do not want. We could also end up worse!
A business stocking its shelves after hours is not considered operating. The same holds true for an asphalt plant stocking its supplies for the next day. The complaints about the town's S2 housing that was planned for the end of the Grumman runway were no different. Some local residents could not accept the concept. The housing now has an extensive waiting list and I understand a second list has been established for those waiting to buy resales, i.e. waiting for someone to die.
