Once again, Lou Sullo demonstrated that he is the most versatile player in the league. In addition to his stellar defense, Lou led all scorers with 16 points, grabbed a game high 14 rebounds and collected five assists in leading Holy Family to 53-21 victory over St. Joseph on Saturday.

Steven Curcio, a defensive standout, showcased his offensive skills, scoring nine points and handing out five assists. Brian Garriques and Tom Oswald tossed in seven points each, while Justin Rogich and Mike Weiss chipped in with four points apiece. Mike Hebron (3 points) and Carlos Gomez (2 pts.) snared five rebounds apiece while Rob DeGennaro (2 pts.) and Mike Pesale (4 assists) disrupted St. Joe's offensive flow with their unrelenting pressure on the opposing guards.

In the Sunday game, beating St. Vincent would be a tall order for Holy Family as their opponent enjoyed a huge height advantage at every position. Undaunted, Holy Family compensated for their lack of size with incredible hustle and determination.

From the opening tip-off to the final buzzer, Holy Family played tenacious defense, consistently came up with loose balls and even managed to out-rebound their taller opponents. As a result, Holy Family improved their record to 8-1 with a convincing 60-43 victory.

Holy Family's little big men - Jonathan Kishanuk(15 pts.), Lou Sullo (14 pts.), Brian Garriques (11 pts.), Justin Rogich (5 pts.), Mike Hebron (2 pts.)and Tom Oswald (2 pts.) - won the battle of the boards, while Mike Wiess dazzled the crowd with several spectacular passes. Once again Holy Family guards, Rob DeGennaro (2 pts.), Carlos Gomez (3 pts.), Mike Pesale (2 pts.) and Steve Curcio (4 assists) forced numerous turnovers with their pressure defense.

Holy Family's 7th grade basketball team claimed sole possession of first place with a 41-33 victory over St. Brigid. Before the game both teams were tied for first place. The victory increased Holy Family's record to 9-0. The great defense played in the first half by both teams was illustrated by a half time score of 15-9 in favor of Holy Family. In the second half however, Holy Family's offense came to life and was able to outscore and outplay St. Brigid.

Holy Family's guards Mike Wasiluk, Josh Cuozzo, and Larry Buffalino played a great game. Mike, Josh, and Larry executed a great full court press and did not allow St. Brigid's outside shooters to get good shots. Holy Family had its usual strong rebounding game. Danny Slater and Mark Mondello both had strong rebounding games and Mark also had two points.

James Robison, an emergency starter for the flu stricken Brian Bacchi, played a strong game under the offensive backboards and scored four points. Allen Haynes was a force under both the offensive and defensive backboards. Allen scored all nine of his points in the second half of the game. Mike DiMaria played his best game of the season, hitting key baskets down the stretch. He scored eight of his 12 points in the second half. Bobby McAuley took control of the game in the fourth quarter by hitting key baskets and foul shots. Bobby scored seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Holy Family plays its last three games of the season on the road. This weekend Holy Family travels to Sea Cliff to play St. Boniface.
