An Oceanside man was killed on Tuedsay evening of this week when his car slammed through the wall of a locker room at Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville.
According to Nassau County detectives, the driver of the vehicle was heading east on Stewart Ave. approaching a T-intersection with Newbridge Road. Rather than turning right or left onto Newbridge, the 35-year old driver proceeded through the intersection into the driveway of the high school and then into the wall.
The Hicksville Fire Department and the Nassau County Police Department Emergency Services Bureau responded to the scene. Witnesses at the accident stated the car was moving at a high rate of speed when it crashed through the wall. The velocity of the car at the time of impact was so great that it went almost entirely through the wall.
The driver was taken to Nassau County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m. No one was in the locker room at the time of the accident, and no one else was injured.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating to discover why the car drove into the wall with no apparent signs of braking or attempts to avoid impact. They are presently awaiting toxicology reports of the driver.
