The executive committee of the NorthWest Civic Association takes exception to the rosy picture that Tom Clark painted last week concerning Twin County's asphalt plant and senior housing application.
Not once does Mr. Clark mention the negative effects this project would have on our neighborhood. Replacing the old Zara plant, with a new 500 ton per hour plant, would bring asphalt production, associated noise, emissions and truck traffic within a few feet of residents' homes and dangerously close to the Burns Avenue Elementary School.
We all acknowledge the need for senior housing and would prefer it to any asphalt plants. Is this project proposal based on the hope that Hicksville residents are so desperate for relief from Twin County's operation that they will jump at any opportunity offered them? Does this mean we should settle a dense population of our seniors and frail elderly in such close proximity to an asphalt plant? Is this all the concern and respect that can be accorded our retired citizens?
Realizing, that for the foreseeable future our neighborhood will continue to be impacted by asphalt plants is most difficult, however, we would not wish them on anyone else.
