Environmental Study of Proposed Project Begins With Scoping Session:
The initial stages of an environmental study of Twin County Recycling Co.'s proposed re-development of its Engel Street property got underway last week when the Town Environmental Quality Review (TEQR) Commission held a scoping session to gather public imput for the guidelines of the study.

A Rallying Attempt to Save Human Services
In an attempt to save at least a portion of the money that has been cut from human services in the county budget, the Human Services Coalition has scheduled a rally on the steps of the County Executive Building at 1 West Street in Mineola at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 19 and are asking as many people who can to come out and support this effort to return funding to agencies which are served by the Nassau County Youth Board, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Addiction and the Mental Health and Welfare Council.

Hicksville Youth Council Seeks Corporate Sponsorship
In the face of losing almost half of its county funding, the Hicksville Youth Council held a special meeting on Wednesday evening to apprise residents of how the cuts have affected them and to formulate a strategy to attempt to regain some of that funding.

The Hicksville Asteroids, Girls U-12 travel soccer team, led by co-captains Brittany Ross and Ashley Oliva finished their fall season by completely dominating and beating first place Port Washington 1-0.

Holy Family Defeats St. Peter's
St. Peter's employed a full court press against Holy Family's 8th grade basketball team for the entire game last weekend, and for four quarters Holy Family attacked the press with deft passing and tremendous team work. In turn, numerous easy scoring opportunities were created, and Holy Family cruised to a 60-37 victory, improving their record to 5-1.
