Using a strong full court press, Holy Family's 7th grade basketball team was able to cruise to a 53-36 win over St. Edward's of Syosset. Unfortunately, Holy Family's win came in the second round of St. Gertrude's Holiday Tournament. Holy Family was unable to beat a very strong St. Dominic team in its opening round match-up and lost 37-26.

Holy Family's swarming defense was able to stall St. Edward's' offense for most of the game. Leading Holy Family's tough defensive play were Danny Slater, Mike Wasiluk, and Mark Mondello. Danny, Mike and Mark harassed St. Edward's' ball handlers all game long. Having another strong day of rebounding was Brian Bacchi and Bobby McAuley. This combination was able to control the offensive and defensive boards throughout the game. Brian and Bobby also scored five and eight points, respectively. James Robison played a strong defensive game and also contributed six points to Holy Family's offense. Holy Family was led by the strong guard play of Mike DiMaria and Larry Buffalino. Mike and Larry also jumped into the offensive flow by scoring ten points each. Allen Haynes led Holy Family on the offensive end with 14 points.

Holy Family finished the holiday tournament with a 1-1 record. Holy Family resumes its regular CYO schedule this Sunday with a game against St. Ignatius of Hicksville.
