The Holy Family 7th grade basketball team defeated St. Aidan's 61-17 last weekend.
Holy Family's hard work in practices appears to be paying off, as they displayed their strongest defensive performance of the year. Leading their strong defensive play was Danny Slater and Mike Wasiluk. Wasiluk added two points offenisvely. With a trio of rebounders; Bobby McAuley, Allen Haynes and Brian Bacchi; Holy Family was able to control the offensive and defensive boards. The trio also generated a combined 26 points, with Bobby scoring eight points, Allen scoring 12 points, and Brian scoring six points. Also making contributions to Holy Family's offensive surge was James Robison with ten points and Larry Buffalino with 11 points. Holy Family's balanced scoring attack also included four points by Mike DiMaria, four points by Josh Cuozzo, and four points by Mark Mondello.
While most basketball teams are resting and taking a Christmas break, Holy Family has accepted an invitiation to play in the St. Gertrude Holiday Tournament. The tournament has some of the best teams in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and should be a very good test for Holy Family.
