We are extremely blessed to have so many wonderful schools here on Long Island. Having a choice of schools is the most important asset for your children.

As the cost of education is rising, we think of ways that we can save a few dollars here and there. An easy way to save is to bring your unwanted household items to the Salvation Army or church sale and getting a receipt. This gives you a savings on your taxes. There are many other very easy ways of saving. I know that the church I go to, Holy Family, has had great success with their raffles. Being able to win money makes it a lot of fun for people to participate.

One of the most successful fund raisers in recent years has been the Homecoming Fair. All of the public schools in Hicksville unite for this event. Games for the children, good foods, the band performance and a football game make this a fun day for all. Many students have received scholarships from the money earned from this wonderful, fun fund raiser.

Supporting education is the best place for your hard-earned money. I especially request that you remember Holy Trinity High School this holiday season. They are at 98 Cherry Lane in Hicksville. The cost of education is higher there because they do not have a large congregation as the elementary catholic schools. Holy Trinity's students are very talented. Their plays are fantastic. But most of all, the students will be eternally grateful to you for your generosity.

Best wishes to you for happy holidays.

Karen Frey
