On Sunday Morning, October 31, a very special community event will take place in Hicksville, the Lovenox 5-mile Race for Cardiac Wellness, and we are asking for everyone's help to make it successful.

The race will bring more than 500 runners and walkers into Hicksville to "run for cardiac wellness," with the entire net proceeds of the event being donated by race sponsor Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals to the American Heart Association.

We need your cooperation to assure the safety of these guests in the Hicksville community. Please, please, avoid driving your vehicle on the route of the race while the runners and walkers are passing by. The race will start at exactly 9 a.m. on the morning of October 31 and the last participant will cross the finish line at Cantiague Park by approximately 10:15 a.m., although most of the course will be clear long before 10:15.

We hope that as many people as possible will be on hand along the course to cheer on the runners and walkers. This is a great opportunity to show recreational athletes from all across Long Island what a friendly community Hicksville truly is!

Thank you in advance for your understanding and your cooperation. Although it may be necessary to delay traffic at various points in order to accommodate the race, we very much want to minimize any inconvenience to local residents caused by the race.

This promises to be a great morning for local runners, for the American Heart Association and, not the least, for the Hicksville community. If you have any questions about the race, please feel free to call me at 516-349-7646.

Mike Polansky, president

Greater Long Island Running Club
