Many people observe Veterans Day as a holiday. Some are off work, doing the things they enjoy. Few people take the time out to salute the men and women of our armed forces both past and present, for helping to keep our country safe and free. It is wonderful that local veterans groups sponsor programs to remind people of the sacrifices these men and women have made for their country. It's a shame there isn't more participation from the public.
Many families have had members join the military, and unfortunately, they have had loved ones who have perished in war. To die for one's country is a supreme sacrifice, topped only by loss of life for one's God and one's family.
It is only fitting that today, Veterans Day, we take a few moments to remember those fallen veterans and to say thanks for all of those whose military duty has indeed helped to keep freedom alive and well.
