Congratulations to the Hicksville Americans Soccer Club Boys U-8 Tournament Team, the Stars! The boys took second place at the Syosset Soccer Club Columbus Day Tournament on Oct. 9-10. The Stars had to play a total of four games, two on each of the days.
On Saturday, the Stars played two intense games of soccer against Syosset and Plainview Old-Bethpage Soccer Clubs. The Stars won against Syosset with a score of 7-0. In this game the Stars showed great teamwork as they looked for passes and took many shots on the goal. In game two the Stars saw their first and only loss to Plainview Old-Bethpage Soccer Club with a score of 2-1. The Stars held a tie long into the second half when Plainview-Old Bethpage scored another goal to win the game.
On Sunday, the Stars played two more games against Auburndale and New Hyde Park Soccer Clubs. The Stars won against Auburndale 1-0. Now with two wins and one loss, the Stars knew they had to play 100 percent in the next game to place in the awards. And that they did! They played the undefeated team, New Hyde Park, and held them in a tie till the end with a score of 1-1. The shining Stars brought their second place trophies home to Hicksville!
The greatest goal of the weekend was the goal of the Stars playing as a team. Team "brothers" begins with our terrific goalie James Cusack. Followed by field players Ryan Alfred, Tyler Arnone, Michael Calahan, James DiMartino, Brian Freire, William Heuser, Derek Letosky, Terence Pfeifer, Keith Toribio, Michael Torrellas and Stephen Trifilio. On behalf of all the boys and their families our greatest thanks to their coaches: Head Coach Ray Pfeifer, assisted by Mike Calahan, Mike Letosky and Louis Freire. All their hard work and enthusiasm made this tournament weekend successful and above all fun. We are all so proud of the boys. Go Stars!
