On Sunday, Sept. 26, the Hicksville Under 11-13 soccer team squared off against a strong Bethpage team. Again these Hicksville boys played with enthusiasm and determination. They continue to make their coaches and parents proud.

The defense again was led by stopper Joseph Chorzepa. Watching Joseph, one is reminded of a wall; nothing gets by him! Sweeper, Brian McMahon, has incredible speed and made several nice plays. Peter Kasaros is quick becoming a super defensive player. He always gives his all. Steven Gallagher, one of the more experienced players, set a great example for the others to follow and made some crucial defensive plays. Jimmy Alexandris came up with several terrific plays. Alex Straftis was relentless in his effort to strip Bethpage of the ball. Rounding out the defense were our two goalies, Joseph Altamura and Mauricio Cubia. Joseph and Mauricio made several great saves each and continue to improve in this position.

Robert Caine and Anthony Geslak shared the halfback position, and played flawlessly, sending the ball upfield to the forwards, stopping several Bethpage drives and Robert with some nice kicks on goal.

The forwards Sean Powerderly, Joseph Altamura, George Anagnostakos, Mauricio Cubias and Matthew Lyons were awesome to watch. They did a nice job controlling the ball, advancing it upfield and seemed to never tire. These boys fought constantly for possession and took advantage of every opportunity. With a little more experience under their belts they will soon become the team to watch in their league.
