I have two issues to address. The first concerns the Hicksville Labor Day Parade and Drill.

Year after year the parade and drill are held in the northwest section of Hicksville. Year after year, the police department allows vehicles to park on the meridian on West John Street from Newbridge Road to Strong Street during the festivities. Members of the Northwest Civic Association have adopted this meridian. They mow it, edge it, plant flowers and clean up the trash, since the governmental agency that should maintain it, does not.

If I couldn't find a parking space at the train station and I parked on this meridian I would probably get a ticket, However every Labor Day weekend, our fire department and our guest fire departments fail to take into consideration the hard work of the Northwest Civic Association in trying to make our section appealing to the eye. With a huge mall right down the street there is no reason for any vehicle to be parked on the meridian and it's disgraceful that our police department allows it.

My second issue concerns Helen Lafferty's letter to the editor in the Sept. 10 issue where she feels as a taxpayer the board should make accessible through the media all the issues they vote on. I agree; however, when Mrs. Lafferty was a member of the board I guess it was OK that her board failed to make this information available to us. Now she can appreciate how we felt when she was a member of the board. Do as "I" say, but don't do as "I" do.
