A man was arrested late last week in connection to several robberies throughout Nassau County over the past month, including an incident at a Hicksville store where the store owner was shot.
Richard Thomas, a 25-year-old man from Rosedale, was arrested and arraigned two days after the Cards and Gifts store, located in the shopping center on the northwest corner of Newbridge Road and Old Country Road, was robbed. It was the latest in a string of 14 robberies in New Hyde Park, Valley Stream, Lynbrook and Mineola that police believe to be related. He was charged with nine counts of Robbery 1st Degree.
Det. Sgt. Richard Schriffen, commanding officer of the Nassau County Robbery Squad, said Thomas' arrest was based on the accumulation of forensic evidence from several of the robbery scenes. Two other men are believed to have been involved in the robberies. The identity and arrest of the other two individuals is pending further investigation.
