On Sunday, May 16, the fifth grade division II Lacrosse team traveled east to Sachem and came away with a resounding 9-0 victory. It is rare indeed to have a shutout in lacrosse, but defensemen, Kevin Kleeman, Danny and Richie Schmidt (1 goal), Kevin Mack, and Craig Davis smothered the Sachem offense, allowing only nine shots to be taken on goalie Kenny Kowalski, who made some spectacular saves. The offense was like a juggernaut, relentlessly pushing the ball up field. Attackmen Brian Andrews (2 goals, 1 assist), Michael Rooney (1 goal), Nicholas Ajello (2 goals 2 assist) and Alex Kapatos (1 goal) were like swarming bees around the opposing goalie, peppering him with one shot after another. Midfielders John Anglin, Erich Reichmann (1 goal), Brendan Foley (2 assist), Jimmy Davis (1 goal 1 assist), Sean Greene (1 assist), Michael Wright and Gregory Thomas were all over the field, made phenomenal passes while unselfishly finding the open man.
Most of the boys have been playing together for three years and are performing like a well oiled machine. Head Coach John Ajello and assistants Terry Davis, Sandy Kapatos and Bill Kowalski have them playing at the best of their abilities.
The victory at Sachem brings their overall record to an impressive 7 wins and only 1 loss, with two games remaining one away at Freeport and then against arch rival Garden City at 1:30 pm at the Middle School Field.
