As Yogi would say "It was déjà vu all over again!" For the second time in three games the Holy Family Eagles found themselves trailing their opponents by 20 points midway through the third quarter. And once again the Eagles proved their mettle by refusing to quit and staging another incredible comeback. This time, however, there would be no happy ending.
Despite the courageous effort, the Eagles rally came up just short. With the lead narrowed to three points and under a minute to play St. Frances' players hit several clutch free throws to secure a 55-49 victory and eliminate the Eagles from the playoffs.
Coaches Ed and Rich are exceptionally proud of the team. Despite being outsized in most games, the Eagles managed to post a 9-3 record, win a playoff game and a tournament. This is a tribute to the players hustle, intensity, and work ethic. And while the Eagles did not win a championship they did manage to lead the league in several important categories: laughs, floor burns, and sportsmanship.
Congratulations to "Stormin'" Steven Curcio, "Rapid" Rob DeGennaro, Anthony "Deuce" Descalzo, Nick "Dynamo" Descalzo, "Flyin'" Brian Garriques, Carlos "The Slide" Gomez, Mike "Hoops" Hebron, Tom "Wizard of" Oswald, Justin "The Joker" Rogich, and "Super" Lou Sullo on a truly outstanding season.
The Eagles would like to the thank the parents and cheerleaders for their enthusiastic support and the Hicksville Illustrated News for its terrific coverage.
