Local residents celebrated last weekend the completion of improvements made to their local neighborhood park. Through a petition to the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department a group of these residents succeeded in having the play equipment in the park upgraded.

According to Dimitria and Lou Patrikis, the organizers of the petition, they brought a petition to the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department to have the play equipment at the park, which is surrounded by the houses on Glenbrook Road, Boulevard Drive and Sunnyfield Road, upgraded.

"I think that was pretty amazing. They [Parks Department] really came through with flying colors for us," said Lou Patrikos.

Lou indicated that before these renovations the majority of the people in the community used to go to two neighboring parks, one on Lee Avenue and the other on Fordham Avenue. Both of those parks he indicated were renovated with new play equipment for the children.

"We are here in this park and no one was coming. It did not have anything to offer that the newer parks did," said Lou Patrikis. "They had all that new nice play equipment with playhouses and all we had was aging equipment that looked like it was from the '70s."

"Now this park is filled almost everyday with kids playing," said Patrikis. " It was never like that before."

Patrikis wished to extend the neighborhood's appreciation to the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department, especially Ronny Kutie and Ted Zervos who were "very helpful and cooperative" in making this happen.

"These two are the reason why it was put in as quickly as it was," said Patrikis.
