The pending construction of an Edward's Supermarket on the property formerly owned by Malvese Equipment Company at the corner of Old Country Road and Charlotte Avenue has fire department officials and local residents concerned over traffic and safety issues that they say will get worse if the store opens.

Hicksville Don Di Donato Leads Masters Runners Nationwide Insurance 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE
Forty-year-old Don Di Donato of Hicksville celebrated his entry into the Masters ranks by winning top honors in the Masters Division of the 21st Annual Nationwide Insurance Run for ASPIRE, held on the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage on Saturday morning, April 4. Di Donato, who had twice previously been the overall winner of the ASPIRE 10K Run and had been second overall four times, finished in ninth place overall this year. He crossed the finish line in 32:48, nine seconds ahead of 40-year-old Phil Richey of Danbury, CT, the second-place Masters finisher.

Charles Reilly to Be Inducted Into the Adelphi University Athletic Hall of Fame
On Thursday, April 23, six of Adelphi's baseball greats will be inducted into the university's Athletic Hall of Fame. One of the Panthers to be honored is Charles Reilly, graduate of Hicksville High School, for his achievements on and off the baseball diamond. The 1998 Hall of Fame Dinner will be held in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom on Adelphi's Garden City campus, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are required.
