Varsity Icemen Open With a Bang!
After unveiling their new home white jerseys, the Hicksville Ice Hockey Varsity Team opened its session against Manhasset. This was the first time Hicksville has worn white in some 15 years and some thought it would be enough to carry them through this game. Hicksville was eliminated from playoff contention in their final game of the season by Manhasset last year and revenge was on the mind of some, but even after losing only two players from last year, there are six new players and it is hard to instill that feeling in the gut of a new player.

Golf Classic Benefits Nassau BOCES CCA
The Long Island District of the New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) decided that one of the goals of its first Charity Golf Classic would be raising some funds for the after-school activities program that provides recreation for students at the Nassau BOCES Center for Community Adjustment (CCA) program. This fund-raising effort added a new dimension to the after-school program which is a community effort sponsored by the CCA PTA and run by the Nassau County Police Activity League (PAL).

Girls Softball Pitching Clinic
There will be a girls softball pitching clinic on Thursdays at the Old Country Road School. The clinic will begin on Nov. 6 and continue through March. The clinic is open to all girls who were registered with the Hicksville Baseball Association during the 1997 season.

Senior Boys of Summer Honored for World Series Season
Long Island's senior "boys of summer" were honored, Tuesday, at the Knights of Columbus hall on Hicksville Road in Plainedge for a World Series season. The Long Island Senior Softball Association (LISSA) paid tribute to its players - including those who went to the Softball World Series and World Championship.

HBA All Star Awards Dinner
The Hicksville Baseball Association's All Star Awards Dinner was held at Antun's Caterers on October 7. It was an exciting evening for all the players, their parents and friends and the board members. This was a time to celebrate with all the teams, boys and girls, from the 8-year-olds through the senior divisions.
