Citing the lack of funding for the controversial third track project, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) pulled the plug on a plan to lay a third track on the main line between the Floral Park and Hicksville train stations.

Palmiero-Winters Competes in High Heel Benefit Race
On July 9, Amy Palmiero-Winters of Hicksville, a below the knee amputee and world record holder, was the only amputee competing against able-bodied women in the LIVE with Regis & Kelly High Heel-A-Thon, which was held in Central Park and sponsored by "Dr. Scholl's For Her" to benefit the March of Dimes.

Hicksville-based Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc., a comprehensive, not-for-profit community resource serving the Long Island region with broad services for individuals affected by mental illness, development disabilities, addiction and/or chemical dependency problems, will hold its 9th Annual Golf Outing on Aug. 5 at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course, 1 Southwoods Road in Woodbury.
