Keeping Kids Safe With With Immunizations

Written by Ronald J. Scaglia Friday, 16 September 2011 00:00

The sun goes down just a little bit earlier each night. The outside temperature doesn’t go quite as high as it did a few weeks ago. Occasionally, there is even a tiny chill in the breeze. These are all signs that summer days are dwindling to a precious few. And for parents, it also signals that it is time to get their children prepared to go back to school.

Moms and dads have headed to the stores to purchase notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators and, of course, the latest “I’ve got to have those or I’ll look totally lame” clothes. However, pediatricians are also urging parents to make sure the children have something that is extremely important, all of their required immunizations.

Father and Son Share More Than a Business Partnership

Written by Matthew A. Piacentini Friday, 12 August 2011 13:33

Parents dedicate their lives to keeping their kids safe and healthy. Most children never get the chance to give back as directly as James (Jamie) Mazzei, though, who bravely made the decision to give his father Michael one of his kidneys in order to save his life.

The father and son team are well known for their nuBest Salon, where they have worked together for 22 years. They recently got together to celebrate the successful transplant and share details of their experience with relief and gratitude.

Michael, 71, underwent the successful kidney transplant surgery on July 19 at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH). It was only a week after they were discharged from the hospital that the grateful father and loving son returned to NSUH to thank the doctors and staff who cared for them and performed their delicate surgeries.

Brookville Family Has Quite an ‘Entourage’

Friday, 12 August 2011 13:27

Rich and Colleen Genatt have always known that their daughter, Allison, was a star. Even when she was diagnosed with the incurable kidney disease FSGS on Mother’s Day in 2001, the Brookville family has constantly been inspired by their daughter’s courage and determination.

“Allison has been through the wringer and still has a wonderful, bubbly, fun, loving personality,” said Colleen. “She has given us such hope by always staying positive, no matter what challenges were put in front of her. She is truly an inspiration to us.”
