On a windy and rainy Nov. 10, the Great Neck Little League Major A’s took on the Great Neck Little League Major Giants in the 5th to seventh grade championship game at Kings Point Park. It was a hard fought game which the A’s won by a score of 4 to 1. William Lentini was the winning pitcher throwing no hit ball for 4 and 1/3 innings, striking out 12 of the 13 outs he recorded. Sean Koo threw 1 and 2/3 innings of no hit ball in relief, picking up the save, struck out 3 batters and was 1 for 3 with an rbi.
Lucein Gau was 1 for 2 with a walk and a big 2 rbi single in the 4th inning. Aaron Lesser walked three times and scored a run in the 2 run 4th inning. Michael Song caught a great game behind the plate and was 1 for 3 with an rbi. Alfonso Renteria starting off the scoring by walking and stealing three bases, including home. Brenner Yellis singled and made two great plays at second base in the 5th inning to protect the lead. Ryan Lessing singled and made two nice catches and a nice fielding play at first base. Shane Modlin had three nice at bats bring the count full each time and allowing the baser runners to advance and eventually score. Although CJ Sandel and David Oginski could not be there, they both made significant contributions during the season, which included a home run by David Oginski in game 5 of the season.
Congratulations to the A’s and coaches Vince Lentini and Darrell Sandel on a great season.
