On Saturday, Oct.12, Great Neck Soccer Club Galaxy U8 boys’ soccer team played in their first tournament at Syosset. Most of the boys on the team participated in the club’s intramural program last year. However, this is the first year the team is playing together under head coach Gary Gal and Great Neck Club trainer Horlan Smith.
The team won the Columbus Day tournament competing with other experienced teams. The boys were elated. Their success comes not only from their hard work, but also from the continuous support and dedication of their parents.
Soccer is a great sport for the kids’ athletic development as well as it teaches them discipline, teamwork, and leadership. On its way to a first place finish, Galaxy won two games and tied with a home Syosset team, which came second.
First place was decided based on the better goal differential for Galaxy. All the kids and parents are thrilled about team’s excellent performance. Their experience with Great Neck Soccer Club will help spread recognition of the club within the community.
The club has intramural, pre-travel, and travel teams for different experience and age. Kids can sign up for the different program level, based on their interest and commitment to the sport, starting from Pre-K through fifth grade. Some of the club teams play all the way through high school. For more information on the Great Neck Soccer Club please go to website www.gnsoccer.com.
