Great Neck Park District’s Parkwood Froggies swim team finished in second place overall in the championships this season. What a wonderful way to cap off another great summer at Parkwood Pool. Beginning in June, they practiced Monday through Friday and competed with other teams on Saturday mornings. Of all the sixty swimmers on the team, thirty competed at the final meet, which took place Friday, Aug. 9 at Eisenhower Aquatics Center in Eisenhower Park. Ranging in age from six to 16, the dedicated teammates practiced hard every day and swam their absolute best when it counted most. Head Coach Bethany Porras and her Assistant Coaches Jennifer Lobodzic and Ileana D’Aloisio, spent hours working with all of the swimmers this summer, teaching the technical aspects of swimming as well as building confidence and self-assurance that carries over into day-to-day life.
Many swimmers on the team continue their practice throughout the year as part of the Great Neck Park District’s Winter Swim Program. The program meets at either North or South High School and there are competitions on the weekends beginning in October that run through May. Bethany Porras is also aquatics director for the winter program. If interested, you can contact her at 516 487-2976 or visit the Park District website at www.greatneckparks.com for more information.
