This year’s Pink Lemonade Stands Across Port Washington was a huge success. Over $6,000 was raised, and all of it was donated to a wonderful non-profit organization, Young Survival Coalition (YSC), which dedicates itself to the plight of young women with breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in young women under 40 years of age. The YSC strives to increase the number of research studies in young women with breast cancer, educate young women about the importance of self-examination and early detection and serve as a point of contact for other young women with breast cancer.
There were 10 stands in Port Washington, including one at Weber Middle School; two in Manhasset; two in Great Neck, including one at Lakeville Elementary School; one in Westchester and one in the Bronx. In addition to selling pink lemonade, Weber Middle School also sold pink baked goods at a large bake sale held in October, where they raised over $300 for this cause.
The organizers of Pink Lemonade Stands Across Port Washington thank all the people who donated time and monies to make a difference for young women battling breast cancer. For more information, please visit www.ysc.org or contact Debbie Levine at
