“People may be coming for a good stretch, but I think they’ll be leaving with a whole lot more.” So claims Yoga guru and Great Neck resident, Lore Kent, as she enthusiastically describes the Tenth Annual 5K Family Walk/Run & Yogathon (formerly The Great Neck Fun Run) benefitting the essential therapeutic programs and services at Winthrop-University Hospital’s Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK). At the forefront of research and treatment, the Cancer Center for Kids’ award-winning team of physicians and nurses uses the most advanced treatment to battle childhood cancers and blood disorders.
Scheduled for Sunday morning, September 18 at Eisenhower Park, Field #2, in East Meadow, New York, the Yogathon celebrates both Yoga and Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. It is being presented in conjunction with the CCFK’s Family Walk/Run which features a certified 5k course with disposable chip timing as well as fun for the whole family, refreshments, food and activities for kids.
The center’s Yogathon offers interested participants the opportunity to enjoy inner peace and physical well-being throughout the day and to experience a sampling of Yoga styles such as Anusara, Kripalu, Kundalini, Vinyasa Flow, Beginner Yoga, Sivenanda, Yin Yoga, Kids Yoga, Chair Yoga, Yoga Dance, Power Yoga and more. Massage, Reiki, Energy Work, Breath Work and Kirtan (Chanting) will also be a very special part of our morning. As the event promotes the invigorating relaxation of Yoga, it also fosters awareness for pediatric cancer and support for the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop. The perfect way to quiet the mind, energize the spirit, and champion a great cause.
