Sid Jacobson JCC honored the accomplishments of Great Neck’s Martin Rosenman at the 26th Annual Golf & Tennis Outing, presented by Steven Schonfeld, which took place on Aug. 1, at Old Westbury Golf & Country Club. The JCC also paid a special tribute to Honorary Chairperson David Nussbaum as a Man of Distinction.
In a sold-out day of sporting and philanthropy, the Golf & Tennis Outing raised over $300,000 for desperately needed social services at the JCC. Funds will go directly to programs such as Camp Kehilla, a summer camp for children on the autism spectrum, and the Friendship Circle, a day program for the frail elderly affected with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. This year’s event gave participants the opportunity to take a personal interest in these populations, allowing people to purchase meals for those in the Friendship Circle or scholarships for children at Camp Kehilla.
“I have people personally who have gone through the programs at the JCC, whether it’s for autism, cancer or Young Onset Alzheimer’s disease,” honoree Martin Rosenman said, after being introduced by JCC Board President Debra Buslik. “Sid Jacobson JCC has saved lives.”
Rosenman has been active in Jewish philanthropy since he moved to Great Neck in 1972. He has served as overall chair for UJA-Federation of New York Long Island, as well on the boards of the Jewish Child Care Association, the Jewish National Fund and Sid Jacobson JCC. He is also active with the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces and is an Associate Trustee of the North Shore Health System.
Man of Distinction David Nussbaum, a Roslyn Heights resident, has been a critical part of the Golf & Tennis Outing, guaranteeing its continuing existence for the last 26 years. He received the Man of Distinction Award in recognition of his tireless work within the JCC since its earliest days and the JCC’s expression of gratitude.
The Golf & Tennis Outing owes its success to the hard work of Honorary Chairpersons Robert Gladstone and David Nussbaum, Golf co-Chairpersons Richard Gershman and Lloyd Rosenman, Tennis Chairperson Andrew Sandler and the rest of the Golf and Tennis Committee. Sid Jacobson JCC would also like to thank the JCC Board of Directors, volunteers and staff for helping with this tremendous event.
