Just in case a nationwide comedy tour wasn’t enough of a challenge, Evan Wecksell has taken on another. For the second time in three years, the guitar-playing comedian and Great Neck native (South High School, Class of 1997) is touring the country while training for a half-marathon.
Evan’s 2011 Re-Run Tour began on March 26 at Columbia/Barnard Hillel and will continue through May 2, the day after the Long Island Marathon emanating from Eisenhower Park. So Evan still has more time to work out, run, sing and tell jokes, and driving/flying to the next gig. If he has any down time, he can be seen back in Great Neck running his hometown streets from Middle Neck Road all the way up to Gatsby Lane in Kings Point.

Besides the comedy-music routine that most recently gained fame on SiriusXM Radio with the release of his first album LOL, Wecksell is performing in College the Musical: A Musical About College, a full-length musical comedy he co-wrote with his wife and fellow performer Kelly Meyersfield, also from Great Neck (South High School, Class of 1996). The two-person show tells the story of a freshman girl who goes off to college and grapples with such issues as casual sex, binge drinking and sexually transmitted diseases.
Evan has some experience as a long-distance runner, having run varsity track and cross-country at Great Neck South and Tufts University. In 2009, he ran the ING New York City Marathon in 3:37 beating over 80 percent of the field. He also trained extensively for his 2008 appearance on the Sci-Fi reality game show CHA$E.
After taking a year off following New York City, Evan had the itch not only to lace up his running shoes again, but also to reunite with and fundraise for Fight for Kids, a youth advocacy campaign launched by the nonprofit organization Citizens’ Commission on Human Rights (CCHR). Fight for Kids seeks to resist the psychiatric over-drugging and labeling of children by educating and offering alternatives to parents. Evan is also selling copies of LOL, at all his shows to benefit Fight for Kids.
The final schedule tour date is Monday, May 2 and Bentley University in Massachusetts. He will also be at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, May 14.
