Two hundred nine students from North and South High Schools are winners in the National Spanish Exam, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Their teachers at North High are Department Head Madalyn DeLuccia, Caitlin Gorta, Israel Henriquez, Bessie Karanikolas, Lilian Krowne, and Dennis Villacorta. The South High teachers of Spanish are Department Head David Balsamo, Fatima Colman, Geraldine Finazzo, Christine Montllor-Gil, Vicki Solomon, and Ana Tavares.

North High School sophomore Daniel Hanover took a third place Mathematical Sciences Award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), held in Phoenix, Arizona, for his project, “Kaprekar’s Constant: A Journey into New Bases.” Daniel had been a finalist at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, which qualified him to compete at ISEF. Over 1,500 high school students, from some 70 countries, regions, and territories, vied for top awards at ISEF. Contestants were required to do extensive research and persuasively present their findings on an advanced mathematical topic to doctoral-level scientists.
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Lakeville Chapter presented the Great Neck Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) with its annual donation for the Program. Miriam Chatinover, NCJW president gave the $1,000 gift to the Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education on behalf of the PCHP.
