For those residents living in the Village of Great Neck, in Kings Point, and in Lake Success, next Tuesday, June 15, is Election Day. All three villages are running mayor or trustee elections. And while none of these elections are contested, all elections are important.
Of course, when an election is contested, there is usually much interest, with supporters out campaigning for each side. However, when an election is uncontested, all too often residents lose interest and there is an unfortunate lack of support.
We would like to stress that each election is important, as is each position that the candidates are running for. Each position carries with it quite a lot of work and enormous responsibility. Elected officials on the peninsula put in much time and effort for each job that they take on, and, in almost every case, financial compensation, if any, is minimal. They just want to do the best they can for all of us.
So please, come June 15, come out and vote for your village officials. They are there for you. Be there for them. They deserve your support.
