As soon as the last turkey leftovers are gone, we are all generally “out there” shopping for the latest holiday gifts. We’re busy and we’re rushed! And my advice is always to shop locally, shop in your own hometown. Make those hectic gift-shopping days easier and quicker and much more pleasant by shopping close to home. And, of course, when you shop right in Great Neck, you also boost the local economy and add great value to your own homes.
Well, Christmas and Hanukah 2013 are long gone and the 2014 holidays seem way off in the future. And indeed they are! So why am I “pushing” for local stores now, as we quietly approach Spring? Why? Well, we all do some shopping year-round, don’t we?
Just two weeks ago I suddenly found myself hosting a Saturday night dinner party for my brother-in-law and then the very next day hosting a Sunday brunch for my four-year-old grandson’s birthday. Were they supposed to happen like that, all in one weekend? No, of course not, but circumstances (and a blizzard) gifted us with one busy weekend. What to do? What to buy? How to set up? And what to serve?
I thought and thought, planned and re-planned. Phoned all over for menu items and party goods. Searched for some wonderful toys and some very special wines and food. As I became busier and busier, and time grew shorter and shorter, I realized how foolish it was to spend all this time “shopping around” when indeed the very best of all I was searching for was right here in Great Neck. Toys, jewelry, selections of special cheeses, champagne and fine wines, wonderful butcher shops and the most pristine and accommodating fish store ever.
There it was, all in Great Neck, the answers for all my needs, all so easy and pleasant to deal with. Personalized service, deliveries, great advice and really superior products were all there, waiting for me practically at my own doorstep.
I shopped locally for two very different birthday bashes. And the local shops certainly went a long way in insuring that each of these family events were the best they could be!
Thank you Great Neck for providing all I needed just minutes from home. I surely won’t forget to shop in my own hometown.
Make Great Neck your first shopping stop too!
